Facts & FiguresThe European forging industry – as an industry with about 1,000 SMEs and 135,000 direct work places – experiences fierce cost-price competition in the global market. For the forging companies, there is thus a distinct need to stay ahead by developing into a "super specialist" and/or co-maker, rather than to be rendered into a jobber.
Being governed mainly by the automotive industry, their market is further characterised by the continuous need for weight saving in order to meet commitments and legislation on fuel economy and emission reduction. Since the prevailing material for forging is still steel, there is a clear opportunity to specialise in the processing of light-metals. |
